White William Hardee, a descendant of Hardee, benefited from the railroad when they founded Hardee’s station on Charleston and Savannah Railroad. The rail line passes through the current CSX railroad between the town and the station where the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church is now located along Highway 17. The new station encouraged growth in the neighboring city, and the name Hardee’s station changed to Hardeeville.

In the early 20th century, timber was abundant in Hardeeville, and the Argent Lumber Company opened businesses. It operated with a four railroad engine making the Hardeeville Mill the most leading employer in the entire city until it closed down in 1959.

For several years, Hardeeville publicized itself as a “low country host” because of its popularity in lodging and tourism facilities along the U.S. highway. Currently, this city has expanded economically due to its increased population growth. Research shows that it has the highest population growth rate in South Carolina, a 53.4 percent growth increase from 2014 to 2010.

It is a small community regardless of the population; Hardeeville is among the top 10 largest cities in South Carolina, especially on incorporated limits. It has a small downtown that’s currently developing in areas based along the U.S. corridor. Both Downtowns and New River are the two distinct population centers in this city.

Downtown Hardeeville is traditionally centered with commercial activity throughout the city. It has several local-oriented businesses all through the main street. Hardeeville has two exits which include several popular shopping points in South Carolina. Exit 5 has the most impressive and long commercial activities. Exit 8 has the most experienced current commercial growth. This exit has an access point to several local hospitals and a famous Country Park located within 1-mile of entry.

The state also has unique industrial locations proposed for River Port development on both southern and western edges, hence focusing on transportation, logistics, and sports-oriented industrial purposes along the U.S.
